Hire a Kayak canoe on Sommen
- the inland Sea
Lake Sommen …
... is one of Sweden's largest lakes with a unique appearance. It is beautifully situated between tree-covered hills on the border between Småland and Östergötland.
... has approximately 3000 km of beaches if you count the beaches belonging to the 365 outlying islands. The lake is 132 km².
... is like an archipelago with bays, headlands, pen water and numerous little islands. The water is clean, clear and good to drink.
Around the lake are cycle paths for those who enjoy cycling and certain areas have footpaths for those who prefer to walk.
For kayak enthusiasts there are opportunities for shorter evenings trips, canoeing into the sunset, or week long expeditions to explore more of the lake's bays, islands and rocky islets.
Tranås …
... With it's 15 000 inhabitants is the largest town on the edge of Lake Sommen. It offers numerous shops, restaurants and cafés on Scandinavia's longest high street.
Tranås also has museums, banks, a cinema, library, tourist information and lots more.
Sommen …
… is one of the lesser towns on the northern most bay of the lake. Here you will find shops, a restaurant and a camping site.
Malexander …
… is also a lesser town on the shores of lake Sommen. It is a church village rich in cultural history. It has a restaurant, café, camping site, petrol station and tourist information.
Torpön ...
… is Sommen's largest island. It has a camping site, restaurant and little shop on the northern tip.
The island is linked to the main- land by a bridge from the south or a ferry from the north.
Other canoeing waters …
… are Ralången, Svartån, Säbysjön, Noen, Bunn and Raklången with numerous lake tributaries.
Petrus Kajak …
…is a little family business founded from our own interest for Nature, outdoor life & kayak paddling. We want to enable others to experience nature from a canoeist's perspective. We want to make it possible for others to experience & come closer to Nature. To paddle a kayak or a canoe gives a new dimension to both Nature & boating life. You can enter bays, which other boats cannot reach, you move forwards soundlessly disturbing no one, not other people, animals or bird life. And by no means least you gain new energy for the stressful life in the 2000,s.
At Petrus Kajak you can hire kayaks or canoes complete with all the necessary equipment for either short or longer trips. We organize guided trips for those who would like one.
If you wish to canoe only one way we can organize transport for either the outgoing or return journey.
Food can be arranged if you wish - a picnic or a simple snack.
We are always open to suggestions to help you have an unforgettable open-air experience.
Hiring is available from 1 May till late Autumn. See our website.
